DARA
SMALL OF BACK HOLSTER PALM OUT
Description
Premium Small of Back Concealed Carry Holster
The Dara Small of Back (SOB) Palm Out Holster is designed for concealed carriers who prefer carrying behind the hip at the 5-6 o'clock position (right-handed shooters) or the 6-7 o'clock position (left-handed shooters). This carry method positions the grip of the firearm towards the draw hand using a reverse cant, allowing for a natural palm-out draw while keeping the firearm tucked close to the body for excellent concealment.
Every holster is made to order for your exact firearm model. Unlike universal holsters that attempt to fit dozens of different handguns, each Dara holster is precision molded and test-fit to the specific firearm you select, providing consistent retention, a smooth draw, and a secure fit.
Please note that this specific holster is not compatible with a light attachment. For light compatibility, see our Light bearing Small of Back Holster.
What Is a Small of Back Holster?
A Small of Back holster is an inside the waistband (IWB) holster worn just behind the hip near the center of your back. Unlike traditional strong-side carry, the firearm is positioned with the grip angled upward using a reverse cant, allowing the shooter to draw with the palm facing outward.
For many concealed carriers, this position provides excellent concealment under untucked shirts, jackets, hoodies, and other cover garments while keeping the firearm tucked close to the body's natural contours.
Why Choose Small of Back Carry?
Small of back carry has remained popular for decades because it offers several advantages over other concealed carry positions.
Benefits of Small of Back Carry
- Easy, comfortable draw for those with back or shoulder injuries
- Excellent concealment under loose clothing
- Keeps the grip tucked close to the body
- Comfortable while standing and walking
- Natural draw stroke when configured correctly
- Ideal for users who prefer carrying behind the hip
- Minimal printing with proper clothing and belt
Many users also appreciate that the grip is less likely to print through clothing compared to some other carry positions.
Recommended Ride Height and Cant
For the best balance of comfort, concealment, and accessibility, we recommend:
- High Ride Height
- Reverse Cant
This configuration positions the grip high enough to establish a full firing grip while keeping the firearm comfortably tucked against your body.
A lower ride height can bury the grip below the belt line, making the firearm more difficult to access, especially when combined with a reverse cant.
Use the ride height and cant angle diagrams found in the product images to determine the setup that best fits your carry style. Or watch this video on ride heights and cant angles: https://youtu.be/l_rRY0GhjXs?si=p-J_C_bzlAo5TH_f

Precision Retention
Unlike soft nylon or universal holsters, every Dara holster is molded specifically for your firearm.
Our adjustable rubber retention system allows you to fine-tune the draw to your preference using a simple quarter-turn adjustment. When properly adjusted, the firearm should seat securely with a positive retention point while still allowing a smooth, consistent draw.
Each holster is fit tested with the actual firearm prior to shipment to ensure a perfect fit.
Choosing the Right Belt Attachment
Selecting the proper belt attachment helps maximize stability and comfort. Our most common attachment is the belt clip.
- 1.5" belts are the most common for everyday concealed carry.
- 1.75" belts are popular for reinforced tactical belts.
- 2"–2.25" options are typically used with duty belts.
Using the correct belt size helps keep the holster stable during movement and drawing.

Many users find Small of Back carry extremely comfortable while standing and walking. Comfort while sitting varies depending on body type, chair style, and ride height.
