Glock Holster Compatibility & Fit Guide

Glock pistols are some of the most straightforward firearms to fit for a holster because many models share the same basic frame and holster-body geometry. Across several Glock model families, the primary difference affecting holster fit is simply the length of the slide.

That means multiple Glock models can use the same Dara holster body, with the holster length adjusted to accommodate the specific firearm. In some Glock families, a holster made long enough for a longer model can even accommodate compatible shorter models that share the same basic holster geometry, leaving additional space at the muzzle.

There are still important exceptions to Glock's broad holster compatibility. Changes in generation, frame size and caliber family, slide length, accessory rails, weapon lights and aftermarket components can alter the dimensions that determine proper holster fit. This guide explains how Dara Holsters determines Glock compatibility and breaks down which Glock models share the same holster body and length, which share the same basic holster-body geometry but require different lengths, and which configurations require their own dedicated fit. It also covers the dimensional differences between Gen 4 and Gen 5 pistols, the unique considerations of Slimline models such as the Glock 43, 43X and 48, light-bearing and railed configurations, and why Glock-pattern firearms such as Polymer80 and Shadow Systems should not automatically be treated as OEM Glock pistols when selecting a holster.

Important: Holster compatibility is based on the actual firearm configuration, not simply the model name, caliber or the fact that two pistols share parts.

How Dara Determines Glock Holster Compatibility

Dara Holsters does not determine compatibility based only on published firearm dimensions or model names. We determine holster compatibility from the actual external geometry of the firearm and the areas of the firearm that interact with the holster.

Important dimensions and features can include:

  • Frame geometry
  • Trigger guard shape
  • Slide width and profile
  • Slide and barrel length
  • Dust-cover dimensions
  • Muzzle profile
  • Accessory rail configuration
  • Firearm generation
  • Weapon-light or laser configuration
  • Control placement and dimensions
  • Retention-system contact points

A rigid thermoformed holster follows the firearm closely. Because of that, dimensional differences that appear insignificant when looking at two pistols side by side can become obvious once the firearm is inserted into a closely formed holster.

Dara physically test fits our firearm molds with the actual firearms before approving those configurations for production. That physical testing is an important part of determining whether two firearm configurations can actually share a holster.

Glock Gen 4 vs. Gen 5 Holster Compatibility

The transition from Glock Gen 4 to Gen 5 is one of the best real-world examples of why Dara does not determine holster compatibility from a model name alone.

When Glock introduced the Glock 17 Gen5 and Glock 19 Gen5 in 2017, Glock stated that the new pistols incorporated more than twenty design changes distinguishing the Gen5 pistols from their Gen4 predecessors. Glock later used the same language when expanding the Gen5 family.

Those changes were not limited to cosmetic features. Glock's published specifications also show measurable dimensional differences between corresponding generations. For example, Glock lists the Glock 17 Gen4 at approximately 1.26 inches overall width, while the Glock 17 Gen5 is listed at approximately 1.34 inches overall width.

Glock's published specifications tell part of the story. Dara's physical holster testing showed us what those changes meant in an actual closely molded holster.

What Dara Found When We Put a Gen 5 Glock Into a Gen 4 Holster

When the Gen 5 Glock pistols first arrived, Dara was still using blue guns and commercially available third-party molding forms during portions of our holster manufacturing process. Visually, the Gen 4 and Gen 5 pistols appeared extremely similar, so it would have been easy to assume that the existing Gen 4 tooling would continue to work.

We tested that assumption with the actual firearm.

When we physically inserted the Gen 5 Glock into a holster formed around the Gen 4 geometry, it did not fit correctly.

The Gen 5 was wider in areas that interacted with the holster. One of the differences we observed was around the bevel and profile at the front of the slide near the muzzle. The difference was subtle when simply looking at the pistols, but it became immediately apparent once the Gen 5 was placed into a rigid holster formed closely around the Gen 4.

The easiest way to describe the resulting draw was "gummy." Instead of seating and drawing with the clean, predictable resistance we expected, the Gen 5 created excessive friction against the Gen 4 holster geometry. The firearm would not properly seat the way it should, and the additional contact changed the feel of the draw.

This is an important distinction when discussing firearm dimensions. A difference does not have to look dramatic on a specification sheet to matter to a holster manufacturer. A few contact points being slightly wider or shaped differently can be enough to increase friction, alter retention or prevent a firearm from fully seating in a rigid holster.

Glock itself confirms that Gen5 introduced more than twenty design changes compared with Gen4. Dara's contribution to that information comes from physically testing the pistols in our holsters and determining which of those changes actually matter to holster fit.

Why Dara Began Producing Its Own Firearm Molds

The Glock Gen 4-to-Gen 5 transition was one of several experiences that pushed Dara away from relying on blue guns and generic commercially available molding forms and toward producing our own firearm-specific molds.

For a holster manufacturer, the mold is the foundation of the finished holster. If the geometry of that mold does not accurately represent the firearm, the holster formed around it cannot accurately represent the firearm either.

Producing our own firearm molds gives Dara direct control over the geometry used during manufacturing and allows us to account for firearm changes that might otherwise be overlooked.

This is also why customers may see separate Gen 4 and Gen 5 selections when choosing a Glock on the Dara website. Those selections are not simply different names for the same firearm.

When Dara separates Glock generations in a firearm selection, choose the generation you actually own.

Important: This table describes Dara holster-body families. Exact compatibility can still depend on firearm generation, rail configuration, weapon light, aftermarket components and the individual Dara holster design.

Glock Gen 2-4 Holster Compatibility

One of the reasons Glock pistols are relatively straightforward to manufacture holsters for is the amount of shared geometry between models.

A large group of Glock Gen 2 through Gen 4 pistols belongs to the same general Dara holster-body family:

Glock 26, 27, 33, 19, 23, 32, 17, 22, 31, 34 and 24.

Within this family, one of the major variables affecting the required holster is simply slide length.

Glock 26, 27 and 33 Holster Compatibility

The following Gen 3-4 models share the same Dara holster body and holster length:

  • Glock 26 Gen 3-4
  • Glock 27 Gen 3-4
  • Glock 33 Gen 3-4

Glock 19, 23 and 32 Holster Compatibility

The following Gen 3-4 models share the same Dara holster body and holster length:

  • Glock 19 Gen 3-4
  • Glock 23 Gen 3-4
  • Glock 32 Gen 3-4

Glock 17, 22 and 31 Holster Compatibility

The following Gen 3-4 models share the same Dara holster body and holster length:

  • Glock 17 Gen 3-4
  • Glock 22 Gen 3-4
  • Glock 31 Gen 3-4

Glock 34 and Glock 35 Holster Compatibility

Within the supported Gen 3-4 Dara family, the Glock 34 and Glock 35 share the same general holster body and holster length.

Generation still matters. Glock officially produced the Glock 34 in a Gen5 configuration, while Dara's Glock 35 compatibility discussed here applies to the Gen 3-4 configurations we support. Do not assume that a generation or configuration not specifically listed by Dara belongs to the same holster fit simply because an earlier version did.

Can a Shorter Glock Fit a Holster Made for a Longer Glock?

Within the compatible Gen 2-4 Dara family, yes, in many cases it can.

The Glock 24 provides a useful example because it is one of the longest pistols in this shared holster-body family. A compatible Dara holster body made long enough to accommodate the Glock 24 can physically accommodate compatible shorter members of that same family because the holster-body geometry is shared. The shorter firearm simply leaves additional unused space at the muzzle end of the holster.

This broad compatibility is one of the advantages of manufacturing holsters for the Glock platform.

It does not mean customers should order every compatible Glock as a Glock 24. Whenever Dara lists your exact firearm model, order the configuration specifically listed for the firearm you own.

Glock 19, Glock 19X and Glock 45 Holster Compatibility

Within the corresponding current-generation Dara fit family, the Glock 19, Glock 19X and Glock 45 share the same holster body and holster length.

The grip configurations and intended roles of these pistols are not identical, but grip length by itself does not determine holster fit. The portions of these firearms that interact with the corresponding Dara holster place them within the same fit family.

This is a good example of why two Glock pistols with noticeably different grips can still use the same holster.

Glock 17 and Glock 47 Holster Compatibility

Within the corresponding current-generation Dara fit family, the Glock 17 and Glock 47 share the same Dara holster body and holster length.

Glock itself describes the G47 as having compatibility with the G19 Gen5 and G45 platform and emphasizes the interchangeability built into the design. From Dara's holster-manufacturing standpoint, the corresponding G17 and G47 configurations share the geometry required to use the same holster body and length.

Glock 20 and Glock 21 Holster Compatibility

The Glock 20 and Glock 21 belong to Glock's larger-frame pistol family and should not be treated as interchangeable with standard-frame pistols such as the Glock 17 or Glock 19.

Glock 20 / Glock 21 Gen 3-4

The Glock 20 Gen 3-4 and Glock 21 Gen 3-4 share the same Dara holster body and holster length.

Glock 20 / Glock 21 Gen 5

The Glock 20 Gen 5 and Glock 21 Gen 5 also share a Dara holster body and holster length with each other.

Glock specifically states that the Gen5 versions of the G20 and G21 incorporated more than twenty design changes distinguishing them from their Gen4 predecessors.

Gen 3-4 and Gen 5 should therefore be treated as separate Dara firearm configurations.

Glock 21SF Holster Compatibility

The Glock 21SF requires additional attention because different frame and rail versions exist.

If your Glock 21SF uses the Picatinny-style rail configuration, do not assume it will fit the standard Dara Glock 21SF holster configuration.

If you are unsure which Glock 21SF frame or rail configuration you own, contact Dara before ordering.

Glock 43, Glock 43X and Glock 48 Holster Compatibility

The Glock Slimline family requires more attention than many standard Glock models because slide length is not the only variable. There are also different frame and accessory-rail configurations.

Common configurations include:

  • Glock 43
  • Glock 43X non-railed
  • Glock 43X MOS railed
  • Glock 48 non-railed
  • Glock 48 MOS railed

These pistols are closely related, but that does not make every version interchangeable in the same holster.

Glock 43 vs. Glock 43X

The Glock 43 and Glock 43X use the shorter Slimline slide-length class, while the Glock 43X uses a longer grip.

Grip length generally has less influence on the molded portion of a holster than dimensions such as the trigger guard, dust cover, accessory rail and slide.

Glock 43X Non-Railed vs. Glock 43X MOS

This is one of the most important Slimline distinctions.

The original Glock 43X was introduced without an accessory rail. Glock subsequently introduced the Glock 43X MOS with both an optic-ready slide and a slim Glock mounting rail system.

That rail changes the external dimensions of the front of the frame.

Dara has physically compared these configurations, and the difference can be seen around the muzzle and dust-cover area. Because our holsters are formed closely around this portion of the firearm, the railed Glock 43X MOS does not properly fit a holster formed around the original non-railed Glock 43X.

Glock 48 vs. Glock 43 and Glock 43X

The Glock 48 belongs to the same broader Slimline family but uses a longer slide than the Glock 43 and Glock 43X.

That means related holster geometry can be shared while additional holster length is required to accommodate the Glock 48 slide.

Rail configuration must still be considered separately. A Glock 48 MOS with a rail should not automatically be treated as the same configuration as an earlier non-railed Glock 48.

Glock 43 and Glock 43X TLR-6 Holster Compatibility

The Streamlight TLR-6 deserves its own explanation because TLR-6 does not describe one universal exterior profile. Different TLR-6 configurations are made for different firearm frames.

Dara supports the following non-railed configurations:

  • Glock 43 + Streamlight TLR-6
  • Glock 43X non-railed + Streamlight TLR-6

Dara's Glock 43X + TLR-6 holster is specifically designed around the non-railed Glock 43X.

We have physically compared the railed and non-railed Glock 43X configurations with their corresponding TLR-6 lights. The firearm profiles are different, and the TLR-6 units themselves also have different exterior profiles. Once those two differences are combined, the resulting firearm-and-light combinations are not interchangeable in the same light-bearing holster.

For the non-railed Glock configuration covered by Dara's TLR-6 fit, verify the appropriate Streamlight configuration, including model numbers 69270 or 69280 where applicable.

Glock Weapon-Light Compatibility

A light-bearing holster is made around the combination of the firearm and the weapon light. Selecting the correct Glock model without selecting the correct light is not enough.

Depending on the specific Glock model, generation and Dara holster, supported weapon-light configurations may include:

  • Streamlight TLR-1 / TLR-1 HL
  • Streamlight TLR-6
  • Streamlight TLR-7 series
  • Streamlight TLR-8
  • SureFire X300U-B
  • Modlite PL350

Availability varies by firearm and holster style. The fact that Dara supports a particular weapon light on one Glock model does not mean that light is supported on every Glock or every Dara holster.

Aftermarket Glock Parts and Holster Fit

Glock has one of the largest third-party and aftermarket parts ecosystems in the handgun market. Owners can change nearly every major component of the pistol, but that creates an important consideration when ordering a closely molded holster.

Dara cannot guarantee compatibility with aftermarket or third-party Glock components unless the exact configuration has been confirmed with us.

Anything that changes the exterior dimensions of the firearm can potentially change holster fit, including:

  • Aftermarket frames
  • Aftermarket slides
  • Compensators
  • Gas pedals or thumb rests
  • Oversized controls
  • Extended takedown controls
  • Charging handles
  • Frame-mounted accessories
  • Unlisted weapon lights
  • Laser units
  • Other external modifications

If your Glock has an aftermarket exterior component and that configuration is not specifically listed by Dara, contact us before ordering.

Do Polymer80 Frames Fit Dara Glock Holsters?

Polymer80 frames should not be treated as OEM Glock frames when selecting a Dara holster.

A Polymer80 pistol may use components associated with a particular Glock model, but the external frame geometry is not identical to the OEM Glock firearm around which our Glock holster was designed.

For that reason, do not select a Glock 17, Glock 19 or another OEM Glock configuration simply because a Polymer80 build uses components associated with that Glock model.

Glock parts compatibility does not automatically mean Glock holster compatibility.

Do Shadow Systems Pistols Fit Glock Holsters?

Shadow Systems pistols are another common source of confusion because several models share design characteristics and some component compatibility with Glock-pattern pistols.

However, Shadow Systems pistols should not be treated as Glock pistols when selecting a Dara holster.

Models such as the Shadow Systems MR920, MR920L, XR920, DR920 and DR920P have their own external geometry. A Shadow Systems pistol may physically enter some Glock holsters, but being able to push a firearm into a holster is not the same thing as having the correct holster fit.

Dara produces firearm-specific Shadow Systems holsters because forming the holster around the actual Shadow Systems geometry provides a better and more appropriate fit than substituting the Glock model it most closely resembles.

Shadow Systems vs. Glock Holster Fit Video

We tested this directly by comparing Shadow Systems pistols in Glock holsters with holsters made specifically for Shadow Systems firearms.

The comparison includes Shadow Systems MR920, MR920L, XR920, DR920 and DR920P configurations and demonstrates why a firearm commonly described as Glock-like does not necessarily belong in a Glock-specific holster.

If you own a Shadow Systems pistol, select the actual Shadow Systems model from the Dara firearm list rather than selecting the Glock model it most closely resembles.

Glock-Compatible Does Not Mean Glock-Holster-Compatible

This distinction extends beyond Polymer80 and Shadow Systems.

A pistol may accept Glock magazines, barrels, internal components or other Glock-pattern parts without having the exact exterior geometry of an OEM Glock firearm.

Parts compatibility and holster compatibility are two different things.

For holster fit, Dara is concerned with the external geometry of the actual firearm and the areas of that firearm that interact with the holster.

Glock MOS and Optics-Ready Holsters

MOS stands for Modular Optic System. Glock MOS pistols are designed to accept compatible pistol-mounted optics.

For many standard-frame Glock models, the optic cut itself does not fundamentally change the portions of the firearm responsible for basic holster fit. The dimensions and position of the installed optic and the design of the individual holster still need to be considered.

The Glock 43X MOS and Glock 48 MOS require additional attention because Glock also added its slim mounting rail to the MOS Slimline configurations. In these models, "MOS" can therefore identify more than an optic-ready slide; it can also indicate a frame configuration with different external geometry around the dust cover.

Why Dara No Longer Makes Glock 42 Holsters

Dara Holsters no longer manufactures holsters for the Glock 42.

We previously offered Glock 42 holsters, but demand changed dramatically after Glock introduced the 9mm Glock 43. Once the Glock 43 became available, we saw sales of Glock 42 holsters almost completely stop.

Every few years, Dara remakes our firearm molds as part of our manufacturing process. This gives us an opportunity to maintain accurate tooling and continue manufacturing around our current standards rather than relying indefinitely on older molds.

When those molds are remade, we also evaluate whether there is enough continuing demand for a firearm configuration to justify producing new tooling.

Because demand for Glock 42 holsters had become extremely low, Dara chose not to remake the Glock 42 mold during that process. As a result, the Glock 42 is no longer offered as a Dara holster fit.

This was not caused by a compatibility problem with the Glock 42 or a problem with the firearm itself. It was simply a discontinued Dara fit based on customer demand and our periodic mold replacement process.

Glock 17

The Glock 17 belongs to Glock's full-size standard-frame family.

Gen 3-4 Dara family: Glock 17 / Glock 22 / Glock 31 share the same holster body and length.

Current-generation Dara family: Glock 17 / Glock 47 share the same holster body and length.

Glock 19

The Glock 19 belongs to Glock's compact standard-frame family.

Glock 19X

For Dara holster fit, the corresponding Glock 19X belongs to the same current-generation holster family as the Glock 19 and Glock 45.

Glock 20

The Glock 20 belongs to Glock's larger-frame family. Glock 20 and Glock 21 pistols share Dara holster bodies within their respective generation groups.

Glock 21

The Glock 21 shares its Dara holster body and length with the Glock 20 within the corresponding generation. Gen 3-4 and Gen 5 should still be treated as separate firearm configurations.

Glock 22

Within the Gen 3-4 Dara family, the Glock 22 shares its holster body and length with the Glock 17 and Glock 31.

Glock 40

The Glock 40 is a long-slide member of Glock's large-frame family. Because of its larger frame and extended slide, select the Glock 40 specifically rather than treating it as a standard-frame Glock configuration.

Glock 42

Dara Holsters no longer manufactures Glock 42 holsters. This fit was discontinued because customer demand became extremely low and Dara chose not to reproduce the Glock 42 tooling during a subsequent mold replacement cycle.

Glock 43

The Glock 43 belongs to Glock's Slimline family and uses the shorter slide configuration. Rail and weapon-light configuration must be considered when selecting a holster.

Glock 43X

The original Glock 43X is non-railed. The Glock 43X MOS incorporates Glock's Slimline accessory rail and should not automatically be treated as the same holster configuration.

Glock 45

For Dara holster fit, the corresponding Glock 45 shares the same holster body and length as the Glock 19 and Glock 19X.

Glock 47

For Dara holster fit, the corresponding Glock 47 shares the same holster body and length as the Glock 17.

Glock 48

The Glock 48 belongs to the Slimline family but uses a longer slide than the Glock 43 and Glock 43X. Rail configuration must also be considered.

Generational Differences

Glock generations are more than marketing labels. Over time, Glock has changed frame texture, grip shape, accessory rails, magazine controls, recoil systems, slide geometry, barrels, controls and other components. Some of these changes have little effect on holster fit, while others can directly change how the firearm interacts with a closely molded holster.

For Dara, the most important question is not simply whether a feature changed, but whether that change altered the exterior geometry of the firearm in an area that contacts the holster.

Glock Gen 1

The original Glock pistols established the basic polymer-frame, striker-fired design and overall Glock profile. Gen 1 frames had a relatively smooth grip compared with later generations and did not incorporate the finger grooves, thumb rests or accessory rail found on later pistols.

From a holster-fit standpoint, Gen 1 pistols should not automatically be grouped with later generations simply because the model number is the same. Frame contour and external features evolved substantially after the original generation.

Glock Gen 2

Glock introduced the second generation in the late 1980s with changes focused primarily on the frame while the company expanded the pistol family into additional calibers.

Gen 2 pistols still predate the accessory rail that became common on later Glock frames. They also do not have the finger-groove and thumb-rest configuration associated with Gen 3 and Gen 4 pistols.

Within Dara’s compatibility system, certain Gen 2 through Gen 4 standard-frame Glock models belong to the same broader holster-body family, but exact compatibility still depends on the firearm and holster configuration.

Glock Gen 3

Gen 3 introduced some of the most recognizable exterior changes to the Glock frame. Glock identifies the Universal Glock accessory rail, finger grooves and thumb rests as major third-generation changes.

The accessory rail is especially important for holster compatibility because it changes the geometry of the dust-cover area and also allows weapon lights and lasers to be mounted to the firearm.

For many Dara standard-frame Glock fits, Gen 3 and Gen 4 pistols share closely related holster geometry. This includes families such as Glock 19 / 23 / 32 and Glock 17 / 22 / 31.

Glock Gen 4

Glock introduced Gen 4 around 2009. Glock identifies the modular backstrap system, reversible magazine catch and revised frame texturing as major Gen 4 updates while retaining the accessory rail, finger grooves and thumb rests used on the previous generation.

Gen 4 also incorporated mechanical changes such as an updated recoil-spring system on many models. Some of those internal changes do not directly affect holster fit, but exterior frame and control differences still need to be considered.

For many Dara holsters, Gen 3 and Gen 4 models fall within the same fit family because the portions of the firearm that interact with the holster remain sufficiently similar.

Glock Gen 5

Gen 5 represented a more substantial redesign. Glock officially states that Gen 5 pistols incorporated more than twenty design changes compared with their Gen 4 predecessors.

Among the changes Glock specifically identifies are the Glock Marksman Barrel, removal of the finger grooves, ambidextrous slide-stop levers, revised internal components, a flared magazine well on applicable models and other changes to the frame and operating system.

Not all of Glock’s twenty-plus changes affect a holster, but some absolutely do.

Dara discovered the practical effect of those changes firsthand when Gen 5 pistols were introduced. We physically placed an actual Gen 5 Glock into a holster that had been formed around Gen 4 geometry, and it did not fit correctly.

The Gen 5 firearm contacted the Gen 4 holster more heavily in areas where the external geometry had changed. One area where we observed a difference was around the bevel and profile at the front of the slide near the muzzle.

The difference was subtle when simply looking at the pistols side by side, but it became obvious when the Gen 5 was placed into a rigid holster formed closely around the Gen 4.

The best way to describe the resulting fit was “gummy.”

Instead of seating with the clean, predictable resistance we expected, the Gen 5 created excessive friction against the Gen 4 holster geometry. The pistol would not properly seat, and the additional contact changed the feel of the draw.

That physical test is important because published specifications can only tell part of the story. A dimensional change does not have to look dramatic on paper to matter to a holster manufacturer. A few contact points being slightly wider or shaped differently can be enough to increase friction, alter retention or prevent a firearm from fully seating.

This Gen 4-to-Gen 5 transition was also one of the experiences that contributed to Dara moving away from relying on blue guns and commercially available third-party molding forms and toward producing our own firearm-specific molds.

When Dara separates Gen 4 and Gen 5 in a firearm selection, customers should choose the generation they actually own.

Glock Gen 6

Glock officially announced the sixth generation in late 2025 and began launching Gen 6 pistols in 2026.

Gen 6 includes another series of exterior and ergonomic changes. Glock identifies updates such as a redesigned frame, revised grip geometry, an enlarged beavertail, extended thumb-rest areas, new RTF6 grip texture, an undercut trigger guard, deeper angled slide serrations, a flat-faced trigger and a new optic-ready mounting system.

Those kinds of changes are exactly why Dara does not automatically carry Gen 5 holster assumptions over to Gen 6.

Even when a Gen 6 pistol carries the same model number as a Gen 5 pistol, that does not necessarily mean the exterior geometry that interacts with the holster is identical.

Dara determines Gen 6 compatibility the same way we determine compatibility for every other generation: by physically evaluating the actual firearm and the areas of the firearm that interact with the holster.

Which Glock Generation Changes Matter Most for Holster Fit?

Not every generational update changes holster compatibility. Internal parts, barrel design or trigger-system changes may have little or no effect if the exterior dimensions remain unchanged.

The changes most likely to affect holster fit are frame width and contour, trigger-guard shape, dust-cover dimensions, accessory-rail geometry, slide width and muzzle profile, external controls, optic mounting systems and frame-mounted accessories.

This is why Dara treats Glock generation as part of the firearm configuration instead of assuming that every generation of a particular Glock model is interchangeable.

Glock’s own history documents the progression from Gen 2 frame changes, to the Gen 3 accessory rail and finger grooves, to the Gen 4 modular backstrap and reversible magazine catch, and then to the extensive Gen 5 redesign. Glock officially states that Gen 5 incorporated more than twenty design changes compared with Gen 4.

But published specifications are only one part of determining holster compatibility.

Dara’s Gen 4-to-Gen 5 experience is a good example. Glock documented the design changes, but physically putting the Gen 5 firearm into a Gen 4 holster told us what those changes actually meant in a rigid, closely molded holster: the pistol would not properly seat and the fit felt noticeably gummy because of the additional contact.

That combination of manufacturer specifications and firsthand physical fit testing is how Dara determines whether two Glock generations can actually share a holster.

Frequently Asked Questions About Glock Holster Fit

Will a Glock 19 fit a Glock 17 holster?

Within the compatible Gen 2-4 Dara family, the Glock 19 and Glock 17 share the same general holster-body geometry but use different slide lengths. A sufficiently long compatible holster can accommodate the shorter Glock 19 with additional space remaining at the muzzle. Whenever Dara offers the exact firearm configuration, order the holster listed for that firearm.

Will a Glock 17 fit a Glock 19 holster?

Not necessarily. The Glock 17 has a longer slide than the Glock 19, so a holster manufactured only to Glock 19 length may not provide enough muzzle clearance for the Glock 17.

Do Glock 17 and Glock 22 use the same holster?

Within Dara's Gen 3-4 fit family, yes. Glock 17, Glock 22 and Glock 31 Gen 3-4 pistols share the same Dara holster body and length.

Do Glock 19 and Glock 23 use the same holster?

Within Dara's Gen 3-4 fit family, yes. Glock 19, Glock 23 and Glock 32 Gen 3-4 pistols share the same Dara holster body and length.

Do Glock 26 and Glock 27 use the same holster?

Within Dara's Gen 3-4 fit family, yes. Glock 26, Glock 27 and Glock 33 share the same Dara holster body and length.

Do Glock 34 and Glock 35 use the same holster?

Within the Gen 3-4 configurations supported by Dara, the Glock 34 and Glock 35 share the same holster body and length. Do not assume that compatibility automatically extends to a different generation or firearm configuration that Dara does not specifically list.

Will a Glock Gen 5 fit a Glock Gen 4 holster?

Do not assume that it will. Glock states that Gen5 introduced more than twenty design changes distinguishing the pistols from their Gen4 predecessors, and Glock's published specifications show measurable dimensional differences between generations.

Dara also tested this firsthand when Gen5 pistols were introduced. We physically placed the Gen5 firearm into a holster formed around Gen4 geometry and found that it did not properly seat. The additional contact made the fit and draw feel "gummy" rather than clean and consistent. This physical testing is why Dara separates generations when the geometry affects holster fit.

The pistols made for .40cal do not fit previous generate holsters. The frame and slide are wider.

Why does Dara ask which Glock generation I have?

Because two generations of the same Glock model are not necessarily dimensionally identical. A difference that appears minor when looking at the firearms can matter when those surfaces contact a rigid holster formed closely around the pistol.

Does a Glock 19X fit the same Dara holster as a Glock 19?

Within the corresponding current-generation Dara fit family, the Glock 19, Glock 19X and Glock 45 share the same holster body and length. Weapon-light and other configuration requirements must still match.

Does a Glock 45 fit a Glock 19 holster?

Within the corresponding current-generation Dara fit family, yes. The Glock 19, Glock 19X and Glock 45 share the same holster body and length.

Does a Glock 47 fit a Glock 17 holster?

Within the corresponding current-generation Dara fit family, the Glock 17 and Glock 47 share the same Dara holster body and length.

Do Glock 20 and Glock 21 use the same holster?

Within the correct generation group, yes. Glock 20 and Glock 21 Gen 3-4 share a Dara holster body and length. Glock 20 and Glock 21 Gen 5 also share a holster body and length with each other. The Gen 3-4 and Gen 5 families should still be treated separately.

Does a Glock 43X MOS fit a non-railed Glock 43X holster?

No. Glock added a slim accessory rail to the Glock 43X MOS. That changes the dimensions around the front of the frame. Dara's physical comparison of the configurations shows enough dimensional difference that the railed Glock 43X MOS does not properly fit our non-railed Glock 43X holster.

Does a railed Glock 43X with TLR-6 fit the same holster as a non-railed Glock 43X with TLR-6?

No. The firearm frames have different profiles and the corresponding TLR-6 configurations also have different exterior profiles. Dara's Glock 43X + TLR-6 configuration is specifically identified for the non-railed Glock 43X.

Will a Polymer80 fit a Dara Glock holster?

Do not treat a Polymer80 frame as an OEM Glock for Dara holster selection. Polymer80 external frame geometry differs from the OEM Glock geometry used to manufacture our Glock holsters.

Will a Shadow Systems MR920 fit a Glock 19 holster?

A Shadow Systems pistol may physically enter some Glock holsters, but that does not make the Glock holster the proper firearm-specific fit. Dara manufactures Shadow Systems-specific holsters because the external geometry differs. Select the actual Shadow Systems model rather than the Glock model it resembles.

Are Shadow Systems pistols just Glock-compatible pistols?

They share design similarities and compatibility with certain Glock-pattern components, but that does not make their external dimensions identical. Parts compatibility does not equal holster compatibility.

Will an aftermarket Glock slide fit my Dara holster?

It may, but Dara cannot guarantee compatibility without confirming the exact slide. Aftermarket slides can change external dimensions and contours that interact directly with the holster.

Will a compensator fit my Glock holster?

It depends on the dimensions and profile of the compensator and the muzzle design of the holster. Contact Dara before ordering if the compensator configuration is not specifically listed.

Can I use any weapon light in a Glock light-bearing holster?

No. A light-bearing holster is formed around a particular firearm-and-light combination. Different weapon lights can have substantially different body dimensions, mounting positions and profiles.

How do I know which Glock holster to order?

Final Glock Holster Fit Rule

Order your holster for the firearm you actually own, not simply the firearm it resembles.

Glock's extensive parts interchangeability and shared geometry are part of what makes Glock pistols relatively straightforward to manufacture holsters for. Many Glock models really do share Dara holster bodies, and in several families the primary difference is simply how long the holster needs to be.

But shared parts, similar appearances and close published dimensions do not replace physical holster testing.

Dara has been able to identify compatibility between Glock models because we work with the actual firearms, produce our own firearm-specific molds and physically evaluate how those dimensions interact with the holster. The Gen 4-to-Gen 5 transition is a good example: Glock documented more than twenty design changes, but physically putting the new pistol into the previous-generation holster told us what those changes meant for actual holster fit. The pistol did not properly seat and the increased contact produced the "gummy" draw that told us the geometry needed to change.
