FN Firearms & Holster Compatibility Guide

FN manufactures a wide range of pistols for concealed carry, duty, competition and general use. Dara Holsters supports many popular FN handgun models, including the FN 509 family, FN 510, FN 545, FNX-45, FN 503 and FN Reflex.

This resource covers FN pistol models currently supported by Dara Holsters, compatible weapon-mounted lights, firearm dimensions and important holster fit relationships within the FN lineup.

As of August 2026, Dara Holsters does not currently manufacture holsters for the FN 309 MRD. The FN 309 MRD should not be assumed to fit an FN 509 holster or any other Dara holster unless that specific firearm is listed as a supported option.

FN 509 Family & Holster Compatibility

The FN 509 family is a series of striker-fired 9mm pistols offered in multiple sizes and configurations. The lineup includes Compact, Midsize, Tactical, MRD and Edge variants, allowing the same general platform to cover different applications and firearm sizes.

For example, FN lists the 509 Compact with a 3.7-inch barrel and 6.8-inch overall length, while the 509 Midsize uses a 4-inch barrel and measures 7.4 inches overall. The Compact Tactical extends to 7.4 inches overall with its 4.32-inch threaded barrel. At the larger end of the family, FN developed models such as the 509 LS Edge with a 5-inch barrel and long slide.

FN has continued expanding the 509 family rather than treating it as a single fixed pistol configuration. In 2024, FN announced additional models including the 509 Fullsize MRD and 509 CC Edge XL. The Fullsize MRD introduced a 4.5-inch slide with FN's Low-Profile Optics-Mounting System, while the CC Edge XL combines the compensated CC Edge upper with a full-size 17-round frame.

All supported FN 509 models fit the same Dara FN 509 holster body. The primary difference within the FN 509 family is firearm length. When ordering, select the length that corresponds with your specific FN 509 pistol.

This means the FN 509 Compact, Compact MRD, Compact Tactical, Edge CC, Midsize, Full Size, MRD, Tactical and LS Edge are part of the same Dara holster fit family. You do not need an entirely different holster design for each 509 variation; you need the correct length for your firearm.

This distinction is important because the FN 509 name covers pistols with different physical dimensions. FN's specifications show the Compact at 6.8 inches overall, the Midsize at 7.4 inches and the Midsize Tactical at 7.9 inches. Dara therefore identifies the firearm configuration and appropriate holster length rather than treating every FN 509 as dimensionally identical.

For light-bearing FN 509 holsters, the weapon-mounted light must also match the light option selected when ordering.

FN 509 Model Size Comparison

Physical dimensions are one reason a specific firearm model should be selected when choosing a holster. Models within the FN 509 family can belong to the same Dara holster fit family without having identical overall dimensions.

FN lists the 509 Compact at 6.8 inches long, 1.35 inches wide and 25.5 ounces, compared with the 509 Midsize at 7.4 inches long, 1.35 inches wide and 26.5 ounces. The 509 Compact Tactical is 7.4 inches overall with a 4.32-inch threaded barrel, while FN lists the Midsize Tactical at 7.9 inches overall with a 4.5-inch barrel.

Dara Holster Fit Note: All supported FN 509 models use the same Dara FN 509 holster body. When ordering, select the length that corresponds with your specific FN 509 model. Light-bearing holsters must also be ordered for the specific weapon-mounted light being used.

FN 510 & FN 545 Holster Compatibility

The FN 510 and FN 545 were introduced together in 2023 as larger-caliber, striker-fired pistols based on the design language of the FN 509 system. The FN 510 Tactical is chambered in 10mm Auto, while the FN 545 Tactical is chambered in .45 ACP. FN lists both Tactical pistols at 1.45 inches wide and 6 inches high with 4.71-inch barrels. FN subsequently introduced MRD versions of both pistols using flush-fit 4.1-inch barrels.

The FN 510 and FN 545 fit the same Dara holster body. Although the two pistols are chambered differently, their relevant holster fit allows Dara to accommodate both models with the same holster body. Dara's current FN 510/545 Duty Holster lists both models together, with separate selections for the standard/MRD and Tactical configurations.

Current light-bearing configurations for the FN 510 and FN 545 include the Streamlight TLR-1.

The FNX-45 Full Size and FNX-45 Tactical use their own compatible Dara holster configuration and should not be ordered as an FN 509, FN 510 or FN 545.

Dara's FNX-45 holsters are built around the Tactical variant with accommodation for the threaded barrel and taller suppressor-height sights while also fitting the standard FNX-45.

Supported light-bearing FNX-45 configurations include the Streamlight TLR-1, SureFire X300U-B and Modlite PL350.

FN Reflex Holsters

The FN Reflex is supported in select Dara holster configurations. There are currently no weapon-mounted light combinations listed for the FN Reflex in our fit guide.

FN 309 MRD Holsters

As of August 2026, Dara Holsters does not currently manufacture a holster for the FN 309 MRD.

The FN 309 MRD is not part of our current FN 509 holster fit family. Do not select an FN 509 or another FN model when ordering a holster for the FN 309 MRD unless Dara Holsters specifically adds that firearm as a supported fit in the future.

FN Weapon Light Compatibility

Light-bearing holster compatibility requires identifying both the firearm and the weapon-mounted light. Dara's current FN compatibility guide lists TLR-1 and TLR-7A/TLR-7X configurations for supported FN 509 Compact variants, while supported Full Size, Midsize, MRD, Tactical and LS Edge configurations include combinations with the TLR-1, TLR-7A/TLR-7X and X300U-B.

The current guide lists the TLR-1 for FN 510/545 configurations and the TLR-1, X300U-B and Modlite PL350 for supported FNX-45 configurations.

Why the Weapon Light Matters to Holster Selection

A light-bearing holster should not be selected using the firearm model alone. Dara lists light-bearing firearm configurations individually in its product options. For example, current Light Bearing OWB listings include defined FN 510/545 MRD + TLR-1 and FN 510/545 Tactical + TLR-1 combinations.

Match the firearm and weapon light to a combination Dara specifically lists as supported. Do not assume that changing to another weapon-mounted light preserves compatibility simply because the firearm itself has not changed.

FN Optics-Ready Models & Holster Compatibility

Optics compatibility is a major part of the current FN lineup. FN's Low-Profile Optics-Mounting System appears on numerous MRD, Tactical and Edge models. For example, FN identifies the optics mounting system as a primary feature of the 509 Compact Tactical and 509 Midsize Tactical, while the 509 CC Edge also uses FN's patented Low-Profile Optics Mounting System.

The same system extends beyond the 509 family. FN states that its PUREVIEW optic natively mounts to FN 509, FN 510 and FN 545 models that are MRD, Tactical or Edge configurations. Dara also offers optic-ready FN holsters; for example, the current in-stock FN 509 OWB Holster is explicitly described as optic ready.

In-Stock & Made-to-Order FN Holsters

Dara currently offers several types of FN holsters, with availability depending on the firearm. Current FN 509 offerings include an in-stock optic-ready OWB Holster and a quick-ship Level 2 Duty Holster, with the Duty Holster offering selections for multiple 509 variants including the standard 509, 509 Tactical, 509 Compact and 509 LS Edge.

The FN 510 and FN 545 are supported by Dara's combined 510/545 OWB and Duty Holster offerings. FNX-45 owners also have dedicated options, including an in-stock OWB holster and light-bearing duty configurations for the TLR-1 and X300U.

Dara's FN holster catalog includes both dedicated in-stock products and firearm selections within broader holster products. For example, the FN 509 OWB Holster is specifically identified as in stock and ready to ship, while Dara's broader light-bearing product listings contain individual firearm-and-light combinations that customers select when configuring a holster.

For this reason, the absence of a dedicated in-stock FN product page should not by itself be interpreted as proof that Dara cannot manufacture a holster for that firearm. Customers should check the firearm selections available on the applicable made-to-order holster product before determining whether a configuration is supported.

How Dara Determines & Manufactures Holster Fits

Dara publishes information about its manufacturing process rather than outsourcing all of the product knowledge represented on this page. The company's production-process documentation shows Dara's own holster manufacturing operation and describes the process used to produce its holsters. Dara's individual FN product pages then identify the firearm models and configurations each finished holster is designed to accommodate.

This compatibility guide is therefore more than a generic list of pistol specifications. FN America is the primary source for FN firearm specifications, while Dara is the primary source for Dara holster compatibility. Where this page states that multiple FN models share a Dara fit or that a specific firearm and weapon-light combination is supported, that information is based on Dara's current tooling and product catalog rather than inferred solely from firearm dimensions.

About Dara Holsters & This FN Compatibility Guide

Dara Holsters manufactures firearm-specific holsters in the United States and maintains dedicated product support for numerous FN pistols. The current FN catalog includes dedicated products for the FN 509 family, FN 510/545 and FNX-45, including OWB and retention-duty configurations.

Dara also backs its products with a lifetime warranty. According to Dara's current warranty policy, the warranty covers damage or wear and provides repair or replacement. Alterations to the holster void the warranty, and a change of mind is not covered.

Because firearm models, optics, weapon lights and Dara's available holster fits can change over time, customers should refer to the firearm and light selections currently listed on the applicable Dara Holsters product page when ordering.
