Does Dara Holsters Make a Drop-Leg Holster?

Dara Holsters offers drop-offset holsters and belt attachments that position the holster lower than a standard belt-mounted setup. While we do not offer a traditional thigh-mounted drop-leg rig, our drop attachments provide a lower mounting position without requiring the holster to hang from the thigh. If a thigh rig is what you're looking for, we do offer all of our holsters with a Bridge™ attachment which adapts to virtually all aftermarket and third party platforms.

The important distinction is that the drop comes from the belt attachment, not the holster body itself. The attachment connects the holster to your belt and positions it lower on your hip.

For some shooters, lowering the holster makes it easier to establish a full firing grip and draw with a more natural arm movement. It can also help keep the handgun accessible when wearing body armor, a plate carrier or other equipment around the waist.

Drop-Leg vs. Drop-Offset Holsters: What's the Difference?

Although the terms are sometimes used interchangeably, drop-leg and drop-offset holsters are not the same.

Traditional Drop-Leg Holsters

A traditional drop-leg holster is suspended from the belt and secured around the thigh using one or more leg straps. The holster typically sits farther down the leg than a standard belt holster.

Drop-Offset Holsters

A drop-offset holster remains mounted to the belt through an extended attachment that lowers the holster's position. Depending on the attachment and configuration, a leg strap may be added for additional stability.

With Dara's drop-offset systems, the belt attachment establishes the holster's position. You can choose a setup that works with your equipment, body proportions, and preferred draw height.

Why Choose a Drop-Offset Holster?

1. A More Natural Draw Stroke

Not everyone draws comfortably from the same holster height. Arm length, torso length, body armor, and other equipment can affect how easily someone reaches their handgun.

Lowering the holster can reduce how high the arm must reach to establish a grip. For some shooters, this creates a more comfortable and natural draw stroke, particularly when using a battle belt or duty belt.

The best position is one that allows you to establish a consistent firing grip without excessive reaching, bending, or interference from your equipment.

2. Better Access Around Body Armor

Plate carriers and body armor can interfere with a holster positioned high on the waist. A drop attachment moves the handgun below some of that equipment, making the grip easier to access.

This is particularly useful for law enforcement, security personnel, and other users who carry equipment around their waist.
